Latte with Sonny Dallas Law

WHO: Sonny Dallas Law
ROLE: Redfern Community Centre Cultural Development Officer
OFFICE MEASUREMENTS: 5m x 3m

Sonny is an artist outside of his work at Redfern Community Centre, he writes, directs and is involved in an experimental cross-artform collective that meets monthly.  He also has friends who do invisible theatre on the train.

He thinks this kind of practice is the future, but that there is not enough support for this kind of work in an Indigenous context. This form is good for telling stories from an Indigenous perspective as it acknowledges a relationship with site, narrative and community. He recently went to  indigilab and had to ask the question ‘am I an Indigenous artist or am I an artist?’ He witnessed a performance work where an artist showered and walked naked into the bush. Sonny is not so into the term Live Art, he prefers Performance Art and asks “or how about ‘What The Fuck Stuff?’” We say YES.
